Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
This program is designed as an alternative or entry to VCE and other Further Education for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
The VCAL courses cover Personal Development Skills, Work Related Skills, Literacy, Numeracy and Industry Specific Skills, achieved by undertaking a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate. Students must achieve a satisfactory completion in each of their units in order to achieve their VCAL qualification.
Due to the flexibility of the VCAL structure, enrolment in VCAL classes is available throughout the year with students completing missed work or continuing into the following year to complete the unit requirements.
Foundation VCAL - Year 10 (VCALFND001)
Students aged 15*+
Students will undertake an applied/hands on pathway that is designed to build sufficient Literacy and Numeracy skills to progress into subsequent VCAL certificates, further vocational training, apprenticeships, traineeships or to the workforce. Students will complete selected units from the Certificate I General Education for Adults as part of their Industry Specific Skills strand.
Intermediate VCAL - Year 11 (VCALINT001)
At Intermediate level, knowledge and employability skills development leads to independent learning, confidence and a high level of transferable skills. Students will complete selected units from the Certificate II General Education for Adults as part of their Industry Specific Skills strand.
Senior VCAL - Year 12 (VCALSNR001)
At Senior level, knowledge and employability skills development leads to a high level of interpersonal skills, independent action and achievement of tasks that require decision-making and leadership. This course is an alternative to Year 12 VCE which can allow pathways into university and meet the Year 12 or equivalent entry requirements at TAFE. It is a good stepping stone for students returning to study and would like to ease into VCE studies. Students will complete selected units from the Certificate III General Education for Adults as part of their Industry Specific Skills strand.
